Not likely. However, being overweight can be a significant contributing factor to the pelvis tilting down and forward, called “anterior pelvic tilt”. This can create strain on the muscles around the sciatic nerve and be a source of referred pain.

Interesting, however, I disagree. That is the classic “chicken or egg” argument as to whether muscle dysfunction causes spinal mis-alignments, or the opposite. Clearing up trigger points allows muscles to relax and/or strengthen, which can normalize spinal mechanics. Also, there are other reasons why trigger points appear, such as visceral-somatic reflex. Many times these may only release when nutritional changes are made, or internal organ dysfunction addressed.

You do know that piriformis syndrome is very rare, right? I was trained in NMT years ago; I like using some of the techniques as an adjunct, however, for reasons other than what was taught. TP’s typically clear up when the spinal mechanics have been properly addressed. TPs are secondary phenomenah, not primary.
