he was diagnosed today with sciatica and is ther a treatment besides surgery hes had it for a while.please help!

um it’s more of a nuisance than anything; it can hurt a lot depending on what types of activities you like to do. lots of folks have it; those who do sometimes opt for acupuncture, yoga, stretching exercises, and chiropractic visits instead of surgery. in fact i’ve not been recommended surgery and i have it as well. i do stretches and go to the chiropractor.

It depends on what is causing the sciatica. One cause can be a slipped or bulging disk pressing on the nerve. In that case it surgery is usually recommended, but sometimes it can ease up on it’s own. Another cause is misaligned vertebrae, which can be helped with chiropractic adjustments. Lastly, it can be caused by spasms in the piriformis muscle which can press on the nerve. That usually requires massage or physical therapy. I have it in my left leg and it flairs up when I overdo certain things. I get massages and go to the chiropractor and that usually takes care of it. stretching can really help, especially the muscles in the hips and butt.
