The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in your body. It runs from your spinal cord to your buttock and hip area and down the back of each leg. The term “sciatica” refers to pain that radiates along the path of this nerve — from your back down your buttock and leg.
Sciatica isn’t a disorder in and of itself. Instead, sciatica is a symptom of another problem involving the nerve, such as a herniated disk. Depending on the cause, the pain of acute sciatica — which you may find considerably uncomfortable — usually goes away on its own in four to eight weeks or so.
In the meantime, self-care measures may help you ease sciatica. Some times, your doctor will suggest other treatment.

Sciatica is a general term for back pain due to some impingement of the sciatic nerve. So first you have to find out what is upsetting the nerve. Could be a tight muscle, could be a injury, strain, could be a disc problem. Once you find that out, then you can go about correcting it. Best of Luck

Hey,
sciatica surgery can be really risky and can cause lots of problems.
I had sciatica for years and found a way to cure it naturally without drugs.
In short, I went to this website, http://www.treatsciatica.info and bought the sciatica guide, and in about 8 days I was fine – and no reoccurrence of it.
You should check it out.
Just trying to keep you from risky surgery if its not needed. You should try all options, with surgery as last resort. This is what worked for me, and I encourage you to try also.
Here is a link to a story by a doctor who actually used the system in the resource box.
