I had sciatica for about a year. Then i finally had a discketomy to take out the disc material that had been herniated and was sitting on the nerve causing that pain. After the surgery my sciatica was soooo much better. better there is still nerve tingling and tightness in the calf muscle, will the rest of the pain ever really go away?

It might, but it might not. I’ve had back problems since I was a young teenager. I had a double discectomy and double laminectomy (where they removed not only disc, but bone too) in the L3-L4 and L4-L5 areas in 2008, The numbness I have from the nerves has NEVER gone away. And they never will. By now, it’s considered permanent nerve damage. Someone could literally come up and stab me in the back of my thighs and I wouldn’t feel it until they knocked the bone. I would recommend doing exercises to strengthen the tissues around the calves. That’s really the only way to desensitize the area and it WILL make it about 10 times worse at first. I’m not going to lie to you there. But after a month, it will start to help. You might also consider physical therapy.
